Blue Girl Rose
The Blue Girl Hybrid Tea rose is one of the most famous "blue" roses in the world. This variety is celebrated for reaching the closest possible shade of silver-lavender that can appear blue under certain light or in acidic soil. Bred by the German rose house, Kordes originally introduced in 1964. Growth Habit: Upright, bushy and vigorous. It typically reaches 3 to 5 feet in height and about 2 to 3 feet in width. Color: Silvery-lavender, the blooms are famous for their "icy" or "steely" blue quality. Flower Form: Large, high-centered, and classic (about 5 inches across) with 30-40 petals. Fragrance: Strong and delightful. It has a rich fruity scent often described as a mix of lilac and classic rose. Disease Resistance: Very Good, it is a hardy plant with dark green, "leathery" foliage. Hardiness: Typically rated for USDA zones 5-9, zone 4 with proper winter protection. Blooming Cycle: A "continual bloomer" providing flushes of roses throughout the spring, summer and fall. Thorns: Blue Girl is noted for having relatively few thorns, making it "friendly" to rose prune or cut. Bare Root, Budded 2 yr rose, Grade #1, the highest retail grade.
