What are Bare Root Roses?

Bare root roses are rose bushes that have been cultivated in the soil, carefully dug up during their dormant season, and then shipped to you at the right time for your growing zone. This allows you to plant them when they are naturally ready to establish in their new home, offering a unique advantage for vibrant growth. We have available both "Own Root" and "Budded(grafted)" roses on the farm. We strive to grow and sell Grade #1, the best retail grade for roses. A Grade #1 is the top Grade, having 3 healthy canes on each rose. A Grade #1 rose has a larger root system and more stored energy in its cane's. This allows it to establish itself faster and produce blooms sooner.

Our "Own Root" Bare Root Roses

Own Root Rose: At Charmaine's Rose Cottage, our bare root roses are primarily "Own Root" grade #1. This offers a significant advantage for winter survival, as the entire plant is of the same variety, promoting longevity and natural disease resistance. Here are the advantages:

  • True to Variety Regrowth ( winter hardiness). This is the single best advantage  of own-root roses, especially in colder climates.
  • No wild suckers- the entire plant is the same DNA.
  • Increased Longevity-life span, own Root roses can live for decades.
  • Natural growth habit-natural "V-shaped growth for more air flow and increased disease resistance.

What are "Budded" 🌹 roses.

Budded (Grafted) rose advantages:

  • High performance choice for growers who want an established blooming garden
  • Extreme Vigor-first year blooms,  massive flushes
  • Rapid establishment
  • Built-in soil adaptability
  • Pest Resistance
  • Guaranteed structural quality (grade #1)-sturdier tems for heavy-headed varieties
