Francis Meilland
The Francis Meilland rose was bred by the world-renown House of Meilland in France as a "Centennial Tribute" in the honor of Francis Meilland (1912-1958) to celebrate the 100th anniversary of his birth. The Francis Meilland rose was created to combine the nostalgic beauty of a classic "cabbage" rose with the rigorous disease resistance required by modern growers. The Bloom: It produces exceptionally large high-centered flowers that can reach 5-6 inches in diameter. Color: The color is a delicate luminous shell pink that softens to a creamy white or blush toward the edges especially in bright sun. Fragrance: It is famous for a powerful "old rose" scent with distinct notes of citrus and fruit. The Plant: A tall upright stately shrub that typically grows 5-7 feet tall and about 3 feet wide. It features very strong, long stems that are nearly thornless making it a premier choice for high-end cut flowers arrangements. Foliage & Disease Resistance: The leaves are large, very dark green, and semi-glossy. This "leathery" foliage is the secret to its health, as it is naturally resistant to black spot and powdery mildew. Performance: A repeat bloomer that performs consistently from late spring through first frost. It is hardy in USDA zones 5-10. Bare Root, Budded, Grade #1, the highest retail grade.
